The Jason Lee McKinney Band Puts Unique Spin on Albert King’s Holiday Staple “Santa Claus Wants Some Lovin’” – Available Now

Nashville, Tenn. – Even though it’s been a whirlwind year, that’s not stopping The Jason Lee McKinney Band from spreading the positive vibes. The band is excited to announce the release of their brand new holiday single, “Santa Claus Wants Some Lovin’” which is available now via Bonfire Music Group. Carving out their own way into the Roots genre, their sound incorporates a unique style that is every bit as electrifying as the band’s one-of-a-kind live show that includes a combination of roadhouse rock & roll, bluesy slide guitar, stomping grooves and soul. “I always thought this song was funny and cheeky in the best way,” says McKinney. “It is musically energetic and upbeat while being downright stank face blues. In the year that 2020 has been it felt appropriate to bring humor, light-heartedness and energy to this Christmas season.”

“Santa Claus Wants Some Lovin’” may sound familiar to some music enthusiasts. The track was originally released by late Blues singer and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame icon Albert King in the 70s, and has been covered over the years by an array of critically-acclaimed artists including a Southern Rock rendition by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Lead singer Jason Lee McKinney’s vocals take the song on a ride, channeling inspiration from the original version, but also amplifying JLM Band’s diverse sound to take the single to a new level. The cut was written by powerhouse songwriters Allen Jones and Henry Bush.

Earlier this year, the band took their creativity to new heights with the Pieces album. Serving as the band’s eighth studio album, they collaborated with Grammy-nominated producer Kevin Houston (Buddy Guy, Robert Plant, Lucero) at Jim Dickinson’s Zebra Ranch (North Mississippi Allstars). The project showcases McKinney’s songwriting ability, which has already garnered him multiple hits, awards and other accolades. Once you add in contributions from longtime bandmates Barry Strauser and Billy Wright, as well as background vocals from fellow Memphis-based soul artists Reba Russell and Susan Marshall, it’s clear to see how those writing chops are on full display from start to finish.

With recent features in publications like American Songwriter, Blues Rock Review, Vents Magazine and American Blues Scene, the group is generating buzz in a variety of places to show the diversity of the project. Speaking about the framework of the Jason Lee McKinney Band, American Songwriter says, “The eclectic background, longevity on the road, and honest nature of McKinney sets an ideal backdrop…” They also have a few very special album release shows coming up in McKinney’s hometown of Evansville, Ind., plus must-see shows in Memphis and Nashville.
