“Everyone interpreted the melody and lyrics perfectly to ‘1682’ in the studio,” says Shawn Lane. “This cut has that rare magic to it that you can only hope for when recording. I hope you have as much fun listening to it as we did recording it.”

The new single “1682” was written by Shawn Lane, who is a current member of the multi Grammy-nominated group, Blue Highway. His vocals are accompanied by the world-class musicianship of Richard Bennett, and the result is a must-hear recording that delivers an ode to the past, with cleverly written lyrics. It details a friendly spirit from 1682 who is wandering around watching as the world changes. Shawn Lane and Richard Bennett have been hard at work recording even more new music slated for release in 2024.

This isn’t the first time the dynamic pair has released new music together. Their first venture came in 2019 when Lane and Bennett released their Folk-leaning EP, Land & Harbor. It was met with high critical-acclaim and would turn several heads. They followed that up with additional singles including original tunes “Grey Wind” in 2022 and “1000 Miles” which was released in 2023.

Prior to releasing music together, both Shawn Lane and Richard Bennett have both carved out their own paths in the Bluegrass, Americana and Roots genres. Lane is well-known for his time as a founding member of the award-winning band Blue Highway, where he has won an unprecedented 28 IBMA Awards. Over the years he’s also shared the stage with the likes of music legends Ricky Skaggs and Doyle Lawson. On the other end, Bennett was a member of JD Crowe and the New South, while also performing on the legendary Grand Ole Opry multiple times with Bobby Osborne.
