Nashville, Tenn. – South Carolina-based singer/songwriter and guitarist Andrew Crawford has released his powerful new single, “The Millworker’s Wage,” available now on all digital and streaming platforms (listen HERE). The haunting track sheds light on the little-known history of the Chicola Massacre in Honea Path, South Carolina, a tragic moment during a 1930s textile strike when seven mill workers lost their lives.

“I wrote this one with my wife, Brandi Colt,” shares Crawford. “It’s about the rarely talked about Chicola Massacre in Honea Path, South Carolina, when a textile strike turned violent and seven mill workers were killed, one of whom was a distant relative of mine. I grew up hearing stories about mill life: the hard work, the long hours, and the way generations of families gave everything to those factories. This song is about that fight for dignity, about how some things change and some don’t.”

Blending elements of folk protest and Appalachian balladry, “The Millworker’s Wage” captures the perseverance and pain of Southern mill towns while honoring the humanity behind the headlines. The song paints vivid pictures of life in the mills, the sacrifices made by generations of workers, and the enduring echoes of their struggle. Following the success of his previous single “The Guitar,” a Bluegrass reimagining of Guy Clark’s classic tune featuring Michael Cleveland, this release continues to showcase Crawford’s gift for pairing history with heartfelt storytelling.

A respected musician and songwriter, Andrew Crawford has become known for his dynamic guitar work, soulful vocals and ability to bring the past to life through song. In addition to his solo work, he also frequently performs as a duo alongside Brandi Colt. Over the years, Crawford has shared the stage with legends such as Vince Gill, Jim Lauderdale, Dale Ann Bradley, Rhonda Vincent and Randy Kohrs. He is currently putting the finishing touches on his upcoming album, due in 2026.
